Barbeque Turkey Burgers!Today I wanted a burger, but I didn’t have enough ground beef and let’s be honest, I really didn’t want to go to the store.  My brakes are shot and the kids (teens) and I were starving after a long morning of End-of-Year testing for our homeschool.  So, what to do that’s quick and will use what I already have on hand?  I felt like Winnie the Pooh when he has to think really hard!  Think…think…think..

So I searched and searched and then I remembered that in my freezer there was this large pack of ground turkey that I bought at an amazing price and was saving it.  Saving it for what?  I couldn’t remember so it hit me!  So today, one pound or so of it became my newest creation…Barbeque Turkey Burgers!  Emily’s friend, who’s never had a turkey burger in her life, liked them!  Woohoo!  I was really nervous because you never know what a teen is going think when you hand them something they’ve never had and even though my kids have had turkey burgers before, these were still different.  But they all like them!  They were really good and my son, well, he ate two of them!  Does that tell you had good they were?  They were so juicy!  I mean run down your arm juicy! Oh and wait till you scroll down and see the picture of the Macaroni and Cheese that I served with them that was left over from supper last night, it was heavenly!

1 pound of ground turkey

1/4 corn meal (you may need more)

1 tsp. mustard

3 tbsp. Kraft Sweet and Spicy Barbeque sauce (plus more to glaze the burgers)

1/2 tsp. Smoked paprika

1/4 tsp. ground ginger

1 tsp. salt

1/2 tsp. pepper

1/2 tsp. onion powder

1/2 tsp. garlic powder

Favorite cheese (we used provolone and pepper jack)

Toppings:  bacon, favorite condiments, fried onions, etc.

With one pound of ground turkey, you should be able to get at least 4 good size burgers!

Get your grill nice on hot!  Mix all of the above ingredients together in a large bowl.  If it seems really wet, add a little more cornmeal.  You want enough for it to hold together, but not dry.  Make your patties and place on a sprayed grill.  After about 5 minutes or when they  have nice grill marks and are firm, gently flip.  Grill another 5 minutes or till internal temperature is 165 degrees.  Top with more barbeque sauce and spread it around.  Grill another 5 minutes or until cheese is gooey.  Place on bun and top with your favorite toppings!  We used turkey bacon, leaf lettuce and mayo, but crunchy fried onions would be incredible!  Enjoy!
